Philippine’s D.O.T Bench Marking Program in Kota Kinabalu

Having established expertise for tour programs to Malaysia, the Philippine’s Department of Tourism appointed WINTREX TRAVEL CORPORATION to handle its Bench Marking Program in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia last March 4-8, 2009. Sabah, also known as the Land Below the Wind, is famous for its Ecotourism. In 2008, it had about 2.8 Million tourists from within Malaysia and from all over the world. Famous for its Mt. Kinabalu, a World Heritage Site, guests would either go up this highest mountain of South East Asia or enjoy its nice beaches, underwater sports and other outdoor activities. The Philippines, a tropical paradise of 7,107 islands is known for the splendour of its white sandy beaches and terraced mountains. No wonder, the Philippines is equally a good ecotourism destination. Thus, last March 4, 2009, 24 participants from the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) headed by DOT Director, Ma. Victoria Jasmin, headed for Kota Kinabalu for a gruelling but exciting 5D/4N adventure. The group went trekking one (1) kilometer up Mt. Kinabalu, enjoyed canopy walk though its rain forest, experienced white water rafting for 9 km-15 km, and hopped Gaya and Manukan Islands by boat. The group also had a cultural immersion by having an overnight home stay in a local village. With these, participants from the two (2) departments of government would have inputs about their observations and experiences which are vital in improving the Philippine's ecotourism program. Participants had a group picture at KG Nelayan.
